We have been linked with Thavite Primary School in Malawi since March 2013. The link is supported by the charity Starfish Malawi who promote the important message that making a difference is important, even if you only help one other person.
Since the link began, Storrington children have been involved in finding out about life in Africa: one of our teachers has visited Malawi and we in turn have hosted Thavite school's headtecher, Mr Darliken Chigwetseni. During the year we hold regular assemblies to raise awareness of the link and many children will also be involved in shared project work around themes of healthy eating, recycling and the water cycle over the coming year.
Pupils have also raised money for our link school; Shoesday Tuesday was a great sucess and Year 3 have run an enterprise day for the last two years as part of their Africa topic.
In October teacher Katie Heath travelled to Malawi to visit the school and teach for 5 days. Families at Storrington First School have made generous donations of school equipment which Katie took with her - an update and pictures of her visit can be found here.
Thank you to everyone who has made donations to this cause so far. It is a great opportunity to promote global citizenship amongst our children, developing their knowledge and understanding of the wider world.
