Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to Year 2's page! This is an exciting and important year for you and your child as they approach their last year in key stage 1. We aim to provide a smooth transition between year groups, as it is of great importance to us that the children are supported in the best way possible, to ensure they feel safe and happy to learn.

A letter regarding a SATs meeting has already been sent home. SATs information can be found here. There are links to the exemplification materials that show examples of children working at the expected level at the end of KS1.    The presentation from the Year 2, KS1 SATS information evening can be found here, please also see the attached links to the example SATs papers

Enter and practice your spellings here! We aim to provide the children with a rich learning environment where children can learn effectively inside and outside of the classroom. Over the year, swimming, role play and forest school will continue to be a feature of school life in year 2.

Wherever possible, we take on a thematic approach to your child’s learning. This allows them to become immersed in the theme regardless of its specific subject. Ultimately we want your child to enjoy learning and explore their interests further. Children will follow a programme of study to meet the curriculum for year 2 with a daily maths and English session as well as targeted phonics. PE will be taught partly by our sports coach as well as the class teachers, and homework will be given out weekly on a Wednesday. We encourage children to read regularly at home and continue the reading rocket challenge which they started in year 1.

The links below provide opportunities to practice Year 2 skills:

On a final note, we would welcome any parents into our year group to help in class on a regular basis or for a specific purpose. If you are able to offer your time, and have or are willing to be DBS checked, please get in touch with your child’s class teacher to arrange a suitable time.

Thank you for your support,

The Year 2 Team
