Design Technology Intent
At Storrington Primary school, we believe that DT should provide children with a real life context for learning. We want our children to be inspired through our DT curriculum, to be engineers, designers, chefs and architects.
Quality first hand experiences will enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real life purpose and provide them with the skills needed to shape our world of the future.
Planning and teaching will follow the design, make and evaluate structure and will be linked where meaningful to topics. Knowledge and skills will be applied to other subjects, particularly science, art, forest school and maths.
We aim to:
develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
- build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills
- critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
- understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
